Atletico Algorfa 4 - 0 Todo Deporte
Playing at home with a slightly weakened team against the bottom club in the league, who had only gained three points from their previous 20 games, this was never likely to be a classic and it certainly wasn't. Nevertheless, Algorfa avoided an upset and secured the expected and deserved three points. Algorfa were stronger in all departments throughout so the result was rarely in doubt but despite creating chances they had to wait for 25 minutes before they managed to score their first goal. Constant pressure continued with little threat to our goal but sloppy finishing and some inspired saves from the Todo keeper meant we failed to produce another goal before half time. We had to wait a further 20 minutes of the second half before the second goal then the third and fourth came in the final ten minutes.
Played in front of supportive home crowd on a brilliantly sunny Sunday this was a good workout for the team before next weekend's much more daunting prospect of facing 3rd placed SS Fulgencio on their ground.

SS Fulgencio 2-0 CF Atlético Algorfa A result that fairly reflected the superior football from the home team.however, for much of the game Algorfa created chances and with more controlled finishing could have caused an upset. Fulgencio went ahead after an even first 20 minutes and that was the position at half time. They went 2 up on the hour then all real hopes of a comeback vanished when a rash, clumsy tackle from no.5 (our best player on the day) earned him his second yellow card and he had to leave the pitch. There followed a period where several good saves from our keeper and even more appalling missed chances by the home attack maintained the score at just 2-0. Algorfa played some good football in spells, but too often created problems for themselves by playing backwards and sideways rather than pushing forward and putting pressure on the opposing defence. We are at home to RP Orihuela next weekend, a team 2 places below us in the league.

Despite the gales CF Atlético Algorfa's game away at Thader B went ahead yesterday evening. They probably wish it hadn't as they lost 1-3. (I couldn't get there due to a prior engagement so no details yet). No game over Easter so next game is at home the following weekend against CD Benijofar.

Atletico Algorfa 2-4 Benijofar
A home defeat but an exciting game and a good performance by our team against a Benijofar side placed fifth in the league and who scored 7 against us in November. The first half was evenly balanced and Algorfa challenged for every ball, putting pressure on the opposition and stifling their skilfull passing game. Our reward came on the half hour when after some hefty challenges the ball broke kindly to our promising young no 23 who finished cleanly. It was not until 15 minutes into the second half before the opposition equalised with a hotly disputed goal from a corner. Despite this we battled gamely and our no9 put us in front with a well controlled volley from the edge of the penalty area. The game started to open up as some players tired and Benijofar equalised 5 minutes later. Seeking a win we continued to play open football when it might have been better to shut up shop and in the final quarter of an hour we conceded two goals which gave the away team a win but hardly reflected the effort displayed by the home side. There were some excellent performances from several players today and they can hopefully repeat that away at Sporting Orihuela next weekend.
Again on the plus side, I won the half time draw and brought home a massive Serrano ham.

Sporting Orihuela 5-0 CF Atlético Algorfa The score line reflects only part of the sorry debacle that took place in the lovely Orihuela palmeral this evening. Playing against a tricky wind and a side more skilful and stronger in most departments, and not having had a single shot on goal, we were lucky to go in at half time only one goal down. That soon changed and a clumsy tackle gave the home side a penalty which was converted and from then on there was no way back. Following several yellow cards for complaining to the referee, first our manager and then two team members, were sent off. Three more goals followed but more significantly two more of our players, one the captain, went off the pitch ( I have no idea whether they were injured, sent off or walked off in disgust- answers please from anyone who knows; or cares!) then with our no 4 on the ground with cramp the referee abandoned the game 5 minutes early. It's difficult to know where the team should begin in order to get some discipline back and get effort from all team members. Keeping their mouths shut when the ref is in earshot would be useful. They face top of the league CD Murada at home next week so it is imperative that they avoid another shambles like today's.

Daya Nueva 6-4 CF Atlético Algorfa No details known but it must have been fairly action packed. That's their last away game this season; just a rearranged home game against CD Murada remains.
