Results and match reports

Postby C F Atlético Algorfa » 16 Sep 2017 20:29

Orihuela 4 C F Atlético Algorfa 0

Not the best start to the season, but I have to be honest and say it was a fair result.

On a small pitch we struggled from the start as we like to play with 2 wide men but we could not get them in the game.
Orihuela were more physical and won most of the 2nd balls and went 1-0 up after about 30mins...
We had a few half chances but nothing clear cut....we are lucky to be just 1 down at halftime.
The second half was much of the same with a physical Orihuela side picking up 3 yellow cards along with 3 more goals.

As they say you get what you deserve and we did not deserve anything from the game.
Man of the match for me was Cesar our goalkeeper which says it all really.

Good support traveled from the village just a shame we did not perform to our best.

Bring on the 1st home game next weekend.

C F Atlético Algorfa 0 Formentera 1

A game of very few chance that probably should have ended 0-0 when there was only 2 shots all game.

Not a good game from the start with a lot of yellow cards and 1 red cards for the visitors.
Algorfa could not take advantage of the red card that came on 50 mins, a stubborn 10 men Formentera dug in deep and made things hard for Algorfa.
The Algorfa chance came on about 80 mins when they had a 1 on 1 but the keeper made a good save, then on 93mins the inevitable happened when a Formentera player broke straight though 3 men to score the only goal of the game.

Played 2 and lost 2, a bad start to the season and to me the team need a leader on the pitch which it is clearly missing, tactically things need to change to get our 1st win.

The presentation of the teams was great and there was a great atmosphere so a massive thanks to the fans that came to watch.

Grupo Caliche 4- 1 Atletico Algorfa (match abandoned in 2nd half)
This evening game was brought to a sudden close when midway through the second half the Algorfa goalkeeper suffered a bad knock to the head. An ambulance attended very quickly and after the keeper was taken away for treatment, the referee abandoned the game.
The first half had seen Atletico Algorfa struggle to contain a lively Grupo Caliche attack. The home team went ahead after 10 minutes and goals followed at regular intervals and the score was 4-0 at half time. Algorfa's confidence had clearly evaporated with a lack of shape, especially in defence. They did have 2 good chances but the first attempt went narrowly wide and the second hit the crossbar.
The second half saw Algorfa start with much more belief and determination and they were rewarded with their first league goal of the season. The resurgence was cut short though when the injury occurred to their keeper. We must wait to see whether the score stands or if the game will be replayed. However, for the time being, our thoughts are with the young keeper, our reserve goalkeeper who stood in at short notice, and we wish him well and hope he makes a rapid recovery.

Atletico Algorfa 1-0 CFP Orihuela. A win and 3 points at last. In the first half a period of Algorfa dominance failed to produce a goal and things looked bad when we lost a player to a straight red card after half an hour. The ten men continued to battle well and were rewarded with a goal in the second half when the centre forward kept going when he looked offside and slotted the ball under the keeper. Orihuela were reduced to 9 men when 2 of their players were dismissed in the same off the ball incident but far from that making it easier, Orihuela continued to create chances and fortunately squandered them with poor finishing. Some ten minutes added time meant lots of frayed nerves but we held out to get a deserved victory.
This match was great entertainment in front of a large crowd. If you stayed home to watch England you missed a treat.
Redovan B away next week, details later.

Redovan CF 5 C F Atlético Algorfa 2

The game started with Redovan playing a nice passing game without creating any real threat, a very even first 20mins with no shots on either goal passed quite quickly.

The game then came to live with Redovan breaking the dead lock on 30mins only for Algorfa to equalize 3mins later.
The home side then went 2-1 up with goal that look a bit controversial but then I would say that.
Both side missed good chances before the home side struck again just before half time to make it 3-1.

2nd half started and Redovan should have gone 4-1 up within 5mins but Algorfa were saved by the crossbar, the home team continued to press and Algorfa were hanging on, the 4th goal came on 75mins and the game looked all over for Algorfa especially as straight after the goal we got red card.
Algorfa’s 10 men battled hard and got a small life line when awarded a very dodgy penalty.
GOAL 4-2 with 10mins to play.
Against the run of play Redovan scored to make it 5-2 which settled the game.

Football is a team game and not a sport for individuals which Algorfa don’t seem to understand, we win as a team and loose as a team.....

Atletico Algorfa 0-1 Bigastro
A more promising display from our team against high flying opposition. We matched them in most departments although Bigastro were a physical side and good in the air. Chances were few and far between in the first half and the team's turned round level. Bigastro pressed hard in the second half but a little more luck and we could have been ahead from some well taken free kicks. Having defended really well we were unlucky to concede a penalty with 5 minutes of normal time remaining when a clumsy clash rather than a bad foul upended a Bigastro player and they scored from the spot. Very deflating when we got so near to a draw but no reason to be downhearted as we showed we can play as well as a team currently much higher up in the league.
We are away next weekend to Todo Deporte (wherever that is!). They are currently bottom of the league with no points. More details later.

Todo Deporte Los Montesinos (TD)1-3 Atletico Algorfa. A great result for the team in the end but they made hard work of it. Against the bottom club in the league we got a lucky break after just 9 minutes when the TD goalkeeper had to leave the field injured and his replacement promptly fumbled from a corner kick and the ball was prodded across the goal line. That should have given us confidence but instead we played as though the team had never met each other before, and TD, who had some tricky ball players and a live wire centre forward, came more and more into the game. After half time with a couple of substitutions we looked a better organised outfit but continued to give the ball away cheaply and it was no surprise when TD equalised on the hour. It was only towards the end of the game when TD tired and we did not that we displayed some good moves and started to dominate. This finally paid off when our no 10 cut in and put a low shot perfectly into the bottom corner. This was followed shortly after when a lovely through ball found our no 7 clear and racing towards goal, and as the keeper advanced he played a short pass into the path of our no10 who calmly finished it off. Great support from our fans today as we outnumbered the home locals. Hard game against high flying San Fulgencio next weekend.

Atletico Algorfa 3-3 San Fulgencio
An incredible comeback by our team against one of the top teams in the league. For most of the first hour we were outplayed by a very good footballing side who went 3 goals in front, despite their having a player sent off after 30 minutes. In the second half our forwards started to run at their previously sound defence and as the opposition tired we pulled back three goals in the final 20 minutes to the delight of a large crowd. Despite this we had a couple of narrow escapes in the time added on by the referee but survived to gain an unexpected but very welcome point.
That should boost confidence for next week's trip away to RP Orihuela who are level with us in the league on 7 points. Details later.

CF RP Orihuela 5-2 C F Atlético Algorfa
A disappointing result against a side that were on the same number of points as we had. They were a very physical team and this caused a bad tempered game which saw a large number of yellow cards, mostly for the opposition, and one sending off of an Orihuela player. The game was evenly balanced at half time on 1-1 and Algorfa had looked to be carrying on from their comeback last week. However, we never really got back in rhythm after the break and some sloppy work losing possession in our own half was responsible for 3 quick goals which put the game beyond our reach. An excellent strike for our second goal was no consolation for the defeat. The referee's report will definitely be longer than mine as he lists the carded offenders! Thader at home next week; they are next to bottom in the league so let's hope for a better result.

C F Atlético Algorfa3-2 CD Thader B
We are awarded a free kick in the first minute just inside our opponents half. A hopeful lob into their penalty area eludes everyone and bounces gently into the goal. What should have been an introduction to a game dominated by us against the second bottom club proved to be nothing of the kind and only a beautifully worked free kick in the last few minutes gave us a narrow victory. Although Thader equalised in the first half we repeated our earlier pattern and newly introduced substitute No 10 Jesus was put through and finished well in the opening minutes of the second half. Together with fellow sub No 7 Ivan Esteve they transformed the side as an attacking force and we could well have scored several times again if the finishing had been better. However our opponents kept plugging away and got their reward with a sloppy goal ten minutes from time. Our winning goal from Jesus came as a great relief for the home supporters and puts us on 10 points from 10 games. We are having to fight for every point in this league but our team showed good character today despite putting our nerves on edge.
We are away to 6th place Benijofar next weekend.
